River Rafting Lower San JuanMexican Hat to Clay Hills, Utah

Adult Adventure Trip: July 8-13, 2012 - Ages 16 and up

Come float the canyons of the Lower San Juan River with us from Mexican Hat to Clay Hills, Utah, including Goosenecks State Park and enjoy the remote wilderness of this special area.

The San Juan River flows from its’ headwaters in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains and carves its place out of the landscape from Colorado to Lake Powell. The Mexican Hat to Clay Hills section of the river is 56 miles long and is famous for its deep canyons and stunning geology. The river meanders through Goosenecks State Park with 1,000 foot canyon walls and forms fun splashy rapids as we make our way to Clay Hills. There are great hikes in the side canyons along the way and discoveries to be made of fossils, history and geology.

This trip starts in Bluff, Utah where we will spend one night at Recapture Lodge. Dinner is on your own this night then all your meals from breakfast the next day through lunch the last day are provided. We will launch the second day and float into the narrow canyons of the river, stopping to explore a historical cabin along the way. River days include interpretive stops on geology, Native American and pioneer history, early river running, riparian ecology, and fossils. The rapids we will encounter are Class I-III which we will run in paddle or oar rafts as well as inflatable kayaks. This is a four night trip with 4 days spent on the river enjoying this remote scenic area.
