Explorers Summer Youth Camps

CFI offers a return of our popular Explorer Base Camps in the La Sal Mountains- ecology for kids that want to combine active time outdoors and learning about our forest and rivers!

THANKS to our regional donors and business sponsors and especially to Grand County Recreation Special Service District for 2011 underwriting support and to help provide scholarships, too.

La Sal Mountains Base Camp:

3 nights and 4 days at our La Sal Mountain Base Camp with hiking and one day rafting the Colorado River.

Meet 9am on Tuesday and return at 5pm on Friday. Campers are on a "nature retreat" -- campers should be able to attend the session all nights/days; we do not allow students or family members to come and go from the site (to town for other events for example) for our program standards, group cohesion and child safety protocols. We ask children to leave behind electronics such as game boys, music, and cell phones and learn to have fun on nature's terms!

These sessions are offerred based on the grade level your child is entering into in the fall (Our age guidelines are firm for program quality and safety reasons.)

* Session I June 19-22, 2012 for youth entering grades 5-8

* Session II June 26-29, 2012 for youth entering grades 5-8

* Session III July 3-6, 2012 for youth entering grades 5-8

* Session IV July 10-13, 2012 for youth entering grades 5-8

The program is led by two CFI Naturalist-Guides that are extensively trained to work in our ongoing school environmental education programs. They are 21 years and older and hold college degrees in related fields. Naturalist-Guides receive screening for Utah Educator's Background Checks, have wilderness medicine and CPR certifications, and are licensed Utah River Guides. Additional assistance is provided by either a CFI interns or teen counselor in training.

$100/child ($90 CFI member); Deposit of $25 applies to total fee; 10% discount for sibling from same family.

Significant scholarship assistance is available for qualifying Grand County, Utah families.

Fee ncludes transportation from Moab, camp support, tents and meals, river trip, Forest Service/BLM permits, and FUN with hiking, games, and nature activities. Day One starts 9am at CFI, return last day 5pm to CFI. Bring your own sleeping bag or CFI can provide one at no charge.
