Range Creek is hidden in the Book Cliffs of Eastern Utah and contains some of the best preserved Native American sites in the Southwest. CFI Naturalists narrate the story of this unique landscape, the people who lived here, how they lived, and why they eventually left.

This is a rare opportunity to see these prehistoric Fremont rock art and sites in-depth with plenty of time. Two days with vehicle tour and hikes, evening program, all meals.

Located in the Book Cliffs between Green River and Price, Utah, Range Creek canyon has been opened to research and restricted vehicle access after careful protection by local ranching family for many years. A comfortable vehicle supported camp and the two day trip allows for quality time exploring and hiking. Moderate hiking, up to 2 miles round trip.

Range Creek is hidden in the Book Cliffs of Eastern Utah and contains some of the best preserved Native American sites in the Southwest. CFI Naturalists narrate the story of this unique landscape, the people who lived here, how they lived, and why they eventually left.

We meet at the John Wesley Powell Museum in Green River by 9am, Utah then travel above Green River to enter the Bookcliffs at Horse Canyon. We follow a steep rough road for about an hour and reach locked gate protecting the canyon. Here we will set up a comfortable camp then go into the canyon to explore some nearby sites. After a delicious dinner, we learn more about the area history. The next day, after breakfast our tour takes us all the way in the 14 miles to the Wilcox Ranch homestead and we will visit several other granary and rock art sites on the way.  We will depart Range Creek about 3:30 and arriving back at Green River about 5:00 pm or Moab around 6:00 pm. Delicious healthly meals included from dinner through lunch the next day.
