A Unique Get-Away

— beautiful, secluded setting... perfect for your Nature Retreat

Professor Valley Field Camp is located 20 miles from Moab and Arches National Park and only minutes from the Colorado River with stunning views of the majestic Fisher Towers. Our Camp is located on Bureau of Land Management land under lease for outdoor education purposes. This area is highly scenic and often filmed as a set for movies. Our rustic camp is ideal for your group to enjoy a quiet retreat, learn with a CFI Naturalist about desert plants, animals, geology and public lands management, and have time for your own curriculum as well. Two furnished, weatherproof yurts serve as meeting space/classroom and a cook house. Tipis with cots are available for sleeping.

You'll savor deep silence, awesome views, excellent hiking, and an unbelievable starry night sky far away from city lights!

INCLUDED: CFI staff provide meals, site management and naturalist orientation to the area, evening program and short guided nature hike. Beyond that, you have time to work with your own group or explore on your own near the camp. Group participants help with a camp service projects and meal prep/cleanup.

You can ADD field trips led by CFI staff for additional fees such as a FULL day river trip, hikes to nearby canyons, or a tour of the National Parks (see either the School & Youth Group section or Eco Tours sections for rates on these additional services; some adjustment to day tour fees would be made for meals/snacks already included in camp fee.)

FACILITY: Professor Valley Field Camp is located 1.5 miles off Hwy 128. Our site can accommodate groups up to 40 plus our CFI staff.

Amenities include solar-powered electricity, culinary water delivered from town, limited rustic hot showers, vault toilets, campfire area with seating.

We provide roomy Lakota-style tipis with cots for sleeping. Participants bring own sleeping bags, pads, pillows and ground cloths as well towels and toiletries. Sleeping unit rentals are available.

We provide healthy, balanced meals, snacks, water, lemonade, coffee, tea with menus that accommodate meat and not-meat eaters alike. For additional dietary concerns, you may bring supplemental foods (storage provided in cook yurt; no adjustment to fees.)

Our solar-powered electric system can handle light loads such as a slide projector or computer. Tape decks, CD players are fine for your workshop purposes but otherwise we request you enjoy the sounds and silence of the natural world as much as possible! Quiet hours are between 10 PM and 7 AM in respect for the neighboring ranch. The yurts are cooled in warmer months by low voltage portable swamp coolers. There is a wood stove in the classroom yurt for cooler weeks.

There is no telephone at the camp and cell coverage is unreliable so you'll enjoy being "unplugged", savoring nature’s pace and gifts while staying with us. The nearest available telephone is at Sorrel River Ranch.

There are large dining "shades" that cover large picnic tables. The classroom can seat approximately 24 people at tables for severe weather. Otherwise, there are chairs or the campfire circle for "lecture style" for 40. Keep in mind this is "camping"; there is limited outside lighting; bring flashlights and headlamps.

Please note that due to the intent of our educational lease with BLM, we don't rent for "reunions" or wedding or other private interest groups.
